Is it any wonder? The Arizona shootings.....

Well now that someone has taken matters into his own hands, and at this time no admission to any political party left or right, we now have people in government who wish to blame everyone else for their short-commings and lack of management skills for the most recent shootings that happened at a Safeway grocery store in Arizona.

Trying to blame folks who openly talk about their problems and concerns with various aspects of government, or anything for that matter is wrong on every level. The media and the elected officials would like to spin this into a censorship matter, when the true problems are just overlooked. Too often people that get elected office forget where it is they come from. For example the new speaker of the house who said "An attack on a democrat in office is the same as an attack on us all", nice quote from the movie Braveheart Mr. Boner!

While the actual shootings of several innocent people at the Safeway in Arizona are heart wrenching, what do people expect? There are people out there whos lives are being effected in a big way by the actions of politicians and crooked judges. While these people sit at the top and "think" they are amune to disapline, this is just a stark reminder that they are NOT.

If this tragedy gets turned into ANYTHING but a homicide it will most likely result in much more of the same. It is important to find out why the shooter did what he did, because he is ultimately the one responsible for these acts and not the rest of the nation who endure injustices on a daily basis without resorting to violence/murder. Take away our rights to speak freely and the end result will be more violent outburst. From what I have read this kid was kicked out of school for expressing his thoughts, and now he has expressed his ideas and thoughts in a different way and many can't seem to figure out why.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and people who were the victims of this kids thoughts and expressions. It's very sad and unfortunate however there is a reason this happened and both the families of the fallen/injured and the American public who has been following it deserve to know this kids story. Simply trying to blame guns, AM talk show radio or expression of disappointment in politics is a cop out. None of these things pulled the trigger on that glock.

I'm outraged by this incident, though I can't say I'm surprised something like this happened after such a venomous political climate has emerged.

Janet Nepolitano was right when she warned us of right wing lone wolves.

I hope you do some self-reflection after this incident Rex. Though I don't think you are someone who would actually resort to violence, you seem to harbor some of the same frustrations as the young man who committed this atrocity.

In this day and age, we should settle things through the political process of Democracy. The shooter should have run for office against Congresswoman Giffords and debated her. Let the people decide. One should never resort to violence to settle political differences. Though there has been no shortage of people in right wing media whom would tell you otherwise. Sarah Palin for example had a website depicting Congresswoman Giffords district with gun cross hairs on it. Sharron Angle spoke frequently of "second amendment remedies" as means to achieve a political end. So Rex, I would submit to you that in fact YES, the right wing media may have had an influence on these tragic events. It only takes one weak minded person, and there is no shortage of those who listen to right wing media.

Initial reports show that the shooter was very upset about the new healthcare law, and had previously threatened Giffords about her vote on the matter. Now, the shooter can take solace that, for the rest of his life, he will have government healthcare through the prison system... And as violent as our prisons are, I hope he will need that healthcare frequently.

Ironic that his outburst was the result of him feeling that freedoms were being taken away from him in part by Giffords voting record - which was pretty moderate by the way, and now he will never know any freedom of any kind ever again.

Keep this in mind Rex the next time you bloviate about your right wing ideology. Maybe you should man up and run for office instead of bitching about the patriots who actually do.

Hey PowerStroker,

GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Guy was a liberal and it has been noted several times in several different articles.

Why the hell should I run for office? Seems to me the idea that Government is there to oversee programs has turned into Government running peoples lives. I don't want no part of that crap. All you liberal Democrat fucks do is blame the Right while doing the same things yourself. Many people were outraged when the Democrats rammed healthcare down our throats.

The guy who shot this woman was single with no kids, just like Gifford. Just went to the grocery store today and I find it amazing how the cost of food is going thru the roof. Meanwhile the Democratic "Vote me in some freebies" base gets to run their government bridge cards thru the machine and get free food, while I have to stuff hard earned CASH in the machine. I don't want to hear any more lip from you PowerStroker... You would look kind of funny with your bottom lip pulled over your forehead. wink

Curious what was going thru her (Giffords) head when she made the statement,

"If you want something done get a Jewish woman to do it!"

Seems to me if some white male made that kind of statement people would be calling for their head! She was born and raised in Arizona, yet she claims she is a Jewish woman? C'mon people, we make our own beds.

Thoughts and prayers to the effected families that have to endure this tragedy.

Well aren't we a little riled up today? Does this right wing insanity hit a little close to home?

I'd like a link to a credible news organization to back up your claims that he was a liberal... And by credible you know the list of acceptable major NEWS outlets. I am aware of a spin operation being done to try and portray this shooter as a some kind of liberal, but I haven't seen any credible journalism support it. Having read books about far left Marx and far right Hitler does not a political affiliation make. I can't seem to remember any in the current class of Democrats citing either Marx or Hitler as any kind of ideal leader.  It does seem to me that the modern day skin heads and Neo- Nazis are a pretty reliable Republican voting block though.

And when in recent history have Democrats said that violence is a good method to obtain a political result? I gave you the Sharron Angle example, how bout you give me a Democratic one?

Sounds like a good reason for you to run for office - so you chan CHANGE whatever you don't like about the government instead of bitching about it all the time.

If you don't like what the government is about, get off your ass and fix it?

And for that matter, if you think the wars that Bush started are such a great idea, how bout you get off your ass, grab a gun and go fight them?

No I am not riled up. You however seem to have a knack for doing just that. How is it this situation hits close to home for me? I am in Detroit, this happened in Arizona!

confuse

Ill find the original article that I read from MSNBC that stated he was a liberal and post it tonight. I don't know where you are going with all these references to Skin Heads, Hitler and Nazis though. If you were to see me today you would realize there is no way in hell I fit the Skin Head mold. My hair is longer than my wife's!

And when in recent history have Democrats said that violence is a good method to obtain a political result? I gave you the Sharron Angle example, how bout you give me a Democratic one?

Oh, I am pretty sure the Democrats may have had a hand in 911, and there is countless other examples of Democrats going off the deep end when they don't get their way. When Obama is voted out of the White House in 2012 we will have many more examples, from riots to all out war. Can we deal with that? You Betcha!

I do not recall who Sharron Angle is, you are more than welcome to make your case about her, or later tonight Ill do a search and draw my own opinion, and yes there are lot's of violent Democrats.

Sorry PowerStroker, I do not wish to be a public servant. Obama was real big on "Change", but really how much "Change for the better" has he delivered? Ill tell you NONE. Government should be for overseeing programs such as infrastructure, the military and also for looking out for the public welfare when it comes to corrupt business. It appears they are over-reaching. They should also do away with the summery disposition in terms of law, because it allows Judges to become corrupt and basiclly flaws our entire legal system.

If you don't like what the government is about, get off your ass and fix it?

I am but one man making a living on my own means... The government is many making a living out of fucking people like me, you and everyone else. It's not fair, and I would imagine that's how the Arizona Safeway shooter felt in many ways. I myself would have to be pushed pretty damn far to resort to such action, and thus must wait until enough of the American people are pissed enough to assemble, so that I will not be considered some RWNJ, rather the un-silent majority overthrowing a tyranny.

And for that matter, if you think the wars that Bush started are such a great idea, how bout you get off your ass, grab a gun and go fight them?

What kind of shit is that PowerStroker? The war in Iraq, and even Obama's war in Afghanistan is being fought by paid volunteers! At the time of 911 and even today I have a family to support, that's where my loyalty lies. Should radicals come round this way you will see a militant version of me, until then I will not just up and leave my responsibility to my family, regardless if the President who wages the war is a Republican. Family comes before everything, myself included.

As sure as the guy who thought Gabby Giffords was taking away his freedom... He did that all by himself.  Any proof to your claim of Dem involvement in 911, or is that just another of your nonsensical conspiracy theories on which you base your entire political outlook?

She ran for US Senate against majority leader Harry Reid in Nevada and lost.  She is a right wing tea party idiot, who stated that if we don't get the result we want at the ballot box, there are always "second amendment remedies" that will work to achieve the desired result.

Here you go PowerStroker-

As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy, another former classmate, Caitie Parker, wrote on Twitter.

While Caitie Parker may not be part of an actual NEWS DESK, she did sit next to the acused "DESK" in class.

With regards to Sharron Angle, she is entitled to her opinion. At least that's what someone once told me.

Well you do now! biggrin

Oh and with regards to "Credible News Desks", I am not aware of ANY credible news desks at the moment. Seems they are ALL DRIVEN from revenues and ratings. I also feel there may be some government influence when it comes to the way media is reported as well.

So now what PowerStroker?

Then I realized it was me. As I flushed the urine down the toilet I though of you buddy!

Perhaps the biggest tragedy of the Arizona shootings in my eyes would have been the death of a 9-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green who was too young and innocent to have met such an awful fate.

Interestingly enough little Christina-Taylor Green was born on 9/11/2001

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40992765/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts

My most humble apologies along with thoughts and prayers go out to her parents. She was much too young to die, and it saddens me that the person responsible for these acts would shoot an innocent child who did absolutely NOTHING to effect his life in any way.

I hope they give the shooter the chair! Not that I feel that any of the other people who died there were deserving of such a horrable fate, just that the idea this person could shoot a small child is beyond my comprehension.

Even if some people felt the shooter was a liberal, I feel he was a mad man and should be put down like any other mad rabid animal!

Getting back on topic here after PowerStrokers attempts to mis-direct this thread (And we know Princess Putz, and the fake Brandee accounts have all stemmed from his IP) I am a little concerned about some things I have seen in the media.

It appears that MOST of the outcry in this tradgedy is with regards to the AZ-Repbeing shot, meanwhile the rest of the people that were effected just seem to be not so important. Federal charges have been filed immediately for members of Government who were attacked, meanwhile state charges for the others slain in the massacre trail behind. It almost makes me feel like these other people, some of whom were shot dead, are simply not as important at the government folk.

Is this what out nation has come to? A place where the citizens take a back seat to government? Were not these citizens just as important as the people in government?

Maybe you are right PowerStroker! Maybe I should run for public office of some sort, so that way I can be considered better than the rest of the nation when it comes to protections, rights, freedom and healthcare!

I am not saying that the people who hold office shouldn't be mourned, but by god people, there was more than just the State Representative that got shot! Many of them are DEAD, but we hear and see very little of them on the media.

These people in public office take their jobs knowing full well there are risks, meanwhile the people that come to their events to support them are actually the most important. If it wasn't for the people, the politicians would cease to have a job. They are elected and paid by the people for the people, and that does not seem to be the case with the media!

For gawds sake man! A 9 year old girl was shot dead! Regular citizens brought this gunman down, and regular citizens are the ones treating the injured. Don't get me wrong, I hope everyone who has been injured politician or citizen make a swift and full recovery! However the way this is being handled makes me feel like we are just not as important as people in office, which is WRONG.

The shooter was a mad man, plain and simple! He did not stop at just the Representative or the Judge! He just started mowing down anyone that was near by without prejudice! Had ordinary people not stopped him from reloading, there would be a whole lot more dead.

Now it seems as though the entire Government will take an entire WEEK off work because of this, and Democrats are trying to spin this tragedy into a gun control effort as well as a means to censor peoples thoughts. Terms like hate speech have now been coined and minted in an effort to silence people from speaking their minds with regards to issues that they have every right to express themselves.

Here is a link to where the Democrats want to inact gun control efforts in the wake of this disaster

http://openchannel.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/01/10/5805421-mccarthy-lautenberg-seek-to-ban-high-capacity-ammo-magazines

There can be NO DOUBT that all of this "Vitriol" in politics have started from the DEMOCRATS! Back when Bush was president they started their heated and public attack on Bush, this carried over with Obama when he ran for public office literally attacking President Bush and anyone who was Republican. Now that Obama is in office and the Democrats got what they wanted to a degree they would like to back off the "Vitriol" that they started, because apparently they can do no wrong, and no one should be disappointed in their poor performance. I mean can anyone deny this?

I swear the Democrats are trying to move this country to a dictatorship. They are the very defination of the "Do as I say and not as I do" party.

You made 2 points I would like to respond to.  First your claim that now Democrats will use this to impose tighter gun control on everyone.  That idea is going nowhere - just because a couple of really anti-gun members of congress see this as an opportunity to advance their cause, does not mean the entire Democratic party will adopt their position.  Obama himself has previously stated he sees no reason to add more gun laws than those that are already on the books, and most Dems remember how much money the NRA raised for Republicans back when Clinton was in favor of tighter gun laws.  Don't worry about this one Rex...  Those two will draft some legislation, but their proposal will be stopped in committee before it even has a chance to get anywhere - and many Dems will join with Republicans to help stop it.  It's more of a PR stunt than anything else.

Now to your other point about Congresswoman Giffords life having somehow more value than that of those who were killed.  In terms of her personal life's value, it is equal to that of the other victims.  What is different about Gabby Giffords though, is she holds a very important position in our society...  She is the freely elected Representative of her constituents.  The entire nature of our American experiment, is that we can actually be the first society to succeed in self-governance and elect our Representatives ourselves.  When an attack is made on one of our Representatives, it is much more than an attack on her as a person, it's an attack on Democracy... It's an attack on ALL of us, and that is why it is ever so much more tragic that she was caught up in this.  It's not because she's some kind of elite, it's because through her, the American dream is realized for all of us.  The same can not be said for any of the other victims, not that their plight isn't tragic, it is, but an attack on them doesn't undermine democracy the way an attack on a member of Congress does.

On second thought, you may be right about him not necessarily being a Tea-partier Rex.

From the news reports today, it seems that he did have some very mismatched political ideas that spanned to the extremes of both sides of the political spectrum, but I don't even think that's what drove him to do this, I think he just fell through the cracks of our mental health system. The shooter seems to be a VERY mentally disturbed person.

This is where we disagree PowerStroke.. Gabby Giffords is an older woman, who is performing a job.. Nothing more, nothing less. What happened does not undermine our Republic, it just shows that she was not careful when it came to security. Perhaps she assumed that she had no enemies, and thus was safe to be un-protected in public. The irony here is she was shot at a "Safeway".

For you to say that people in public office (Outside of the main man, the President) are more important than others is appalling. Gabby Giffords made a great deal of statements, one of which I even found rather appalling where she claimed "If you want to get a job done elect a Jewish woman", despite being born and raised in Arizona and also representing the 3rd generation of her family in America she made a statement that implied she was Jewish, rather than an "American Woman". This is an insult to all American woman. Are American Woman to believe that they can not get the job done just because they aren't of "Jewish" decent? Now before you go spouting on me hating Jew's you need to hold your horses... See I have been on about this whole "Hyphen-American" trend as it applies to Africans, Chinese, Italian, Germans, English, Scottish, Indian, Russian, or any other nationality you can think of. If you are an American citizen YOU ARE AN AMERICAN! PERIOD. You damn well better put AMERICAN before that of your heritage otherwise you need to move back to your roots, there you can use your "Hyphen-American" non-sensce without offending Americans. In the case of Gabby Gifford, she didn't even bother to mention American, she just said "Jewish Woman". Politicians do not get where they got without stepping on some toes and beating someone else out of a desired position. A job in the spotlight comes an inherent realization that you are no longer free to just roam around without protection. It's no different for rock stars or movie stars. Take John Lennon, or 2Pac for example. These people need to realize that yes they have constituents that like them, and unfortunately they have some that hate them. I am not trying to justify what happened, just that she had an obligation to assemble in a more secure manor.

When you try and tell me someone like Gabby Gifford was more important than a 9 year old girl it makes me VERY ANGRY, because unlike the 40 year old Gifford that has made her own bed, this little 9 year old girl has done NOTHING to merit her life being taken, and it is my opinion the lax security of Gabby Gifford is partly to blame for the 9 year old's death. Giffords had a responsibility to take into consideration proper security measures for such an event and by not being responsible several others have been killed or injured. Much like how if someone wanted to give away a billion dollars and just started dumping cash from the roof-top it would put everyone below in danger of being trampled, beaten and possibly killed.

Don't get me wrong, it's not Giffords fault this nut case did what he did, however her being a little more causious and a little less arrogant could have prevented this entire desaster. She took a risk, and it turned out bad. Do you see people like Obama, Bush, or any other high profile people assembling outside a local supermarket without security? Wouldn't one have to have a "Permit" to assemble anyway? This way there could be a police presence or some form of security? I think so!

No PowerStroker, outside of the President and Vice President members of congress are no better than ANYONE ELSE and that idea you are pushing that they are is what will bring this "experiment" to violence. This is not the mid-evil days where a King says "An attack on the king's men is the same as an attack on the King himself". That brings back memories of the movie Braveheart where as people under the king abuse their powers, and thus a war breaks out. Gifford's was not the President, however she is a high profile leader and as such should have not subjected her constituents to such lax security.

Does that make any sense to you? I am in no way saying what this mad man did was right, or that I condone it, but I do feel it could have been prevented should the person in charge followed proper channels. I am curious to know if a Permit was applied for, and if it was being allowed by "Safeway" under the private propriety stipulation then Safeway is responsible for the lack of security that would have most certainly prevented this disaster. Even when assembling on Private property you must file for a permit when hosting an event. I have yet to see anything mentioned in the media to that effect.

My thoughts and prayers do go out to the Gifford family, but no more and no less than they do to the others who were caught in her crossfire.

You're awfully hard on a woman who used to be a Republican.

As I said, her life is no more valuable than any of the other victims, but her role in our society is very special, and very important. She is the freely elected representitave for a big chunk of the Arizona population. That means when an attack is made on her, it's not only tragic that a life was damaged, it's also tragic that so many peoley lose their representitave... Their voice in our democracy. I'm not saying the death of the 9 year old girl isn't horrible, I'm saying it doesn't leave thousands of people without a voice in our government the way an attack on a member of congress does. Plus there is enormous uncertainty whether she will make a meaningful recovery and be able to resume those duties, which is another reason Gabby's is a bigger story. That question is much more easily answered for those who died. This is why the media is so focused on Gabby Giffords and less so on the others. That was your innitial question, I'm just trying to answer it.

As to your point about security I will say that members of congress do not enjoy Secret Service protection the way the President and Vice President do. And honestly they shouldn't need such protection. They are the branch of government made up of the citizenry, so it is appropriate that they mingle with their fellow citizens frequently to be better representitaves of their will in Washington.

I think you need to get over the Jewish woman comment. If that's the worst thing you can dig up on her, you really have bigger fish to fry.

I'm not saying the Dems aren't without fault, I'm just saying the Republicans have been the worst offenders as of late.

Case in point: If it were a Republican congresswoman, I wouldn't be digging up offhand remarks she made in order to feel better about her having been shot.

Have a little compassion would you. She was a moderate member of the Blue Dog Dems (the conservative ones) who used to be a Republican. She was loved by her constituents of both parties. She had a bullet enter an exit her head, part of her brain was removed, and half of her scull is still in storage untill the swelling on the rest of her brain goes down. It is really in question what kind of meaningful recovery she can make. So give her a break already would you?

You don't really think I wish bad things to her? Do you?

Because if that's what you think you are way wrong.

I don't care what party someone is from, I would NEVER wish them harm just because they had thoughts diffrent than my own. Now if they tried to hurt me or my family that would be diffrent, but that's NOT the case here.

I hope she makes a full recovery, I just wish that poor little girl would have been spared.

Just because I feel bad about a Republican Judge doesn't mean I'm bipartisan. I prefer to win my battles by debate than by bullets.

Besides, there's even Republicans who think Bush Jr was an idiot.
