It seems appropriate on a forum like this to at least post the factory perfomance data of the MB engines that most of us own, have owned, or will own. There's lots to consider when buying your next car or even swapping engine combinations etc, and so knowing the basic performance data could help you in determining the best value for your dollar, or even gain a little more appreciation of what you already own. I've decided to initially post the European Specifications, since these engines were sold with the highest specific out-puts, and offer a point of consideration as to OEM replacement parts should you be intending to up-spec your motor to the highest factory state of tune etc etc. I decided to include the 6-cylinder M110, 2.8 ltr in this post ( even though it's 1/2 the size of a 560 ) simply because it's a great & timeless design, and very surprisingly performed much better than its displacement would initially have you think. I'll write in order from the small displacement engines to the large displacement engines.
M110, 2.8 ltr in-line 6-cylinder, featuring DOHC, either carburettor or fuel injection, and aluminium cylinder head.
M116, 3.5 ltr V-8, featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders, fuel injection, and aluminium cylinder heads.
Bore and stroke = 92mm x 65.8mm
Displacement = 3,499 cc.
Compression Ratio = 9.5:1
Max HP = 200 bhp @ 5,800 rpm
Max Torque = 211 lb/ft @ 4,000 rpm
M116, 3.8 ltr all aluminium V-8, featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders and fuel injection.
Bore and stroke = 92mm x 71.8mm
Displacement = 3,838 cc
Compression Ratio = 9.0:1
Max HP = 218 bhp @ 5,500 rpm
Max Torque = 224.3 lb/ft @ 4,000 rpm
M116, 4.2 ltr all aluminium V-8, featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders and fuel injection.
Bore and stroke = 92mm x 78.9mm
Displacement = 4,196 cc
Compression Ratio = 9.0:1
Max HP = 218 bhp @ 5,200 rpm
Max Torque = 236 lb/ft @ 3,750 rpm
M117, 4.5 ltr V-8, featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders, fuel injection, and aluminium cylinder heads.
Bore and stroke = 92mm x 85mm
Displacement = 4,520 cc
Compression Ratio = 8.8:1
Max HP = 225 bhp @ 5,000 rpm
Max Torque = 278 lb/ft @ 3,000 rpm
M117, 5.0 ltr all aluminium V-8, Featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders and fuel injection.
Bore and stroke = 96.5mm x 85mm
Displacement = 4,973 cc
Compression Ratio = 9.2:1
Max HP = 240 bhp @ 5,000 rpm
Max Torque = 298 lb/ft @ 3,200 rpm
M117, 5.6 ltr all aluminium V-8, featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders and fuel injection.
Bore and stroke = 96.5mm x 94.8mm
Displacement = 5,547 cc
Compression Ratio = 8.8:1
Max HP = 227 bhp @ 4,750 rpm
Max Torque = 279 lb/ft @ 3250 rpm
M100, 6.9 ltr V-8, featuring SOHC per bank of cylinders, aluminium cylinder heads and fuel injection.
Bore and stroke = 107mm x 95mm
Displacement = 6,834 cc
Compression Ratio = 8.8:1
Max HP = 286 bhp @ 4250 rpm
Max Torque = 405 lb/ft @ 3,000 rpm
Please add anymore official MB figures to this post should you have them !
An interesting point to notice & consider with the above figures, is that generally, with the engine displacement increase, the peak power and peak torque figures occur lower in the rpm ranges...Though the outputs are greater...This is not due to deficiencies in design, but likely because of the increased physical properties (mass) of the reciprocating components.
