The FBI recommends that you pay up if hackers infect your computer with ransomware?

Anyone else heard of this virus going around?

Apparently they infect your computer, encrypt your files - then extort you for money if you want the key to un-encrypt your files! Apparently they are accepting Bit Coin for payments! This is just flipping INSANE! How can they not track these payments and nail these brazen extortionist? In the article it says these people have gotten so bold they are targeting police departments! If they are paying, people like us don't even have a chance!

It's a bold new world out there! Can't believe it!

This is actually a good thing, as it means that more people will keep their jobs where computers & internet banking / bill-paying have taken over. Computers are only work-horses for their owners use, & I think should be regulated as to their possibilities, so that articles like these don't exist.

You say it's a good thing until one morning you wake up and your system is encrypted.

I hear you mate ! To be honest, I've never ever liked the idea of the internet, as it seems to have a delicate balance of pro's & cons, & in this instance, it's not a good thing that's for sure. From the story you've posted, it seems that the offenders are chasing the Big-Money from corporations, not small-fry like us, though that doesn't make us immune.

Realistically, I only ever became involved with the internet since I need e-mails to secure my next work-appointments. So it was industry-needs that led me hear, not personal needs, so that's where I'm coming from, & I know I'm not the only one LOL !

Consider this...I've probably spent between 5-10K just in computers & internet service provider fees, just to have access to the internet over the last 5-years or so. And the only real reason I have it, is for work. Coming here has been a very beneficial side-step though, so no regrets there. But the whole time spent on the net has been plagued with virus & spy concerns etc etc, that have set up a false sense of security, if not paranoia for all concerned. What a great money making scam hey ?...

Cheers,

Rastus
