A high-profile Democratic lawmaker is pushing her own tax plan. OneNewsNow spoke to someone who's asking: "What's this got to do with taxes?"
Senator Kamala Harris (D-California) (pictured), who is considered to be a 2020 presidential contender, wants to provide monthly cash payments of up to $500 to lower-income families. That's in addition to the tax assistance and benefits they already receive.
"Last year, Congress gave a trillion dollars in tax breaks to corporations," Harris toldTheAtlantic.com. "That money should have gone to American taxpayers who need it instead of handing it over to corporations and the top one percent." The "tax cut," as she calls it, would be accessible to families monthly ($500) or at the end of the year ($6,000), according to her website.
What's your reaction to Kamala Harris' idea for monthly cash payments that she describes as a 'tax cut'? (Select up to 2)
What? Another gov't handout? It's worth a try but who pays for it?Reminds me of 'free Obama-phones'Surefire way to increase unemploymentTypical Democratic Socialist suggestion
Phil Kerpen of American Commitment admits he's shocked that anyone would propose such an idea. "How can you put out a plan for just massive cash welfare literally sending checks in the mail every single month to people and call it a tax plan?" he asks. "What is the tax connection here? That she's going to run it through the tax code?"
Kerpen sees it as a similarity to ObamaCare subsidies.
"They called them tax credits and somehow it was supposed to have something to do with taxes," he recalls. "What she's really proposing is a massive redistribution of wealth on a scale we haven't seen in a very long time, and in a form that is pretty contrary to what most people believe in this country: the idea of just sending checks in the mail to people who haven't earned them."
The plan from Senator Harris is called the LIFT the Middle Class Act. LIFT stands for "Livable Incomes for Families Today."
If we were all created equal wouldnt that mean that at some point there would be a redistribution? Be it money, skill, power, health, power - you name it.
I contend that it is still very much a jungle out there and any assumption of fairness and equality is for the ignorantly bliss!
