Hot dog, we have a wiener!
Reigning Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest champ Miki Sudo won her sixth title Thursday, scarfing down 31 franks in the annual Fourth of July bun fight at Coney Island.
Despite beating second-place winner Michelle Lesco by 4.5 dogs for the contests Pepto Bismol-pink belt, the 33-year-old didnt top her career-best record of 41 dogs and admitted both the sweltering 84 degree heat and lack of preparation affected her performance.
The heat just distracted me, but its because of my great competitors who supported me along this journey that I was able to get this win. It was just really hot and I didnt do my training right, she told reporters afterwards.
Hundreds of fan gathered at the Coney Island boardwalk to watch the spectacle, donning hot dog hats and waving Nathans blow-up batons as they cheered on the competitors stuffing meat and bread down their gullets.
Eleven-time champion Joey Jaws Chestnut will defend his title in the mens contest at noon.
