Large denomination bank notes prove there was more money in circulation during the old days!

Recently I have taken up an interest in reading up on old currency and it surprised me to know that large denomination bills such as the $500, $1,000 and $10,000 bills fell out of circulation by the mid 1930's

Now some younger folks visiting the forums might not think these bills are real, but they ARE! While the $10,000 bill was not in public circulation it was used to pay other governments and intra-banking purposes.

The $1,000 and $500 bills were released into public circulation, and you can buy some of these vintage bills today but usually for 5-7 times their value! But, should you ever get broke you could take them to a bank and get face value (if you were that dumb).

My point is, nowadays everything is compared to "old" money - like 1980 dollars are worth more than 2019 dollars due to inflation. Well if that is the case we are a poor and sorry generation! We had people in the 1930's that were walking around with $1,000 bills that in todays money would be worth 10's of thousands if not more!

It just makes me wonder...

When I cash a small check and they ask how I want it I always say $500's will be fine.

I cannot deny that I do have a desire to own a $500 or $1,000 bill!

They are really expensive though, more than I can afford to invest into such a hobby. And even still I'd be highly tempted to use them to fold around my other bills so I could flash them on occasion. LOL, yet this is exactly the kind of vanity that saw me lose $1,500 in Miami recently. I think perhaps I will update this thread from time to time with different currencies just because it's fun to talk about and look at rare currency.

What do the letters spell on the "green seal" stamp outer edge ?.....

The whole symbol is British IMO, as you have the Crown at the uppermost top, followed by Maritime Law scales-of-justice etc etc .

Could you imagine going into a 7/11 and being like, "eh, you got change for a million dollar bill!?"

Already most fast food places and such claim to only keep $20 on hand... and often times trying to break $100 can be difficult at some places as they make the employee drop (time safe) any amount over $50 or something like that.

Kind of makes you wonder how Zimbabwe managed to pull off a $100 Trillion dollar bill....

And they were real too!

Just crazy! What if something cost $734,321,345,443,789.65!? Could you imagine having to peel back and have change for that!? LOL, I mean the sheer mechanics of it!

Are these people in Zimbabwe a genius in math? I mean don't they still make their homes out of mud in some parts of Zimbabwe?
