Seems the software company that runs most dealerships (CDK) has been hacked... some are saying it is a ransomware attack, and as such -- dealerships around the country are having to implement 1980's methods until the system comes back up.
Yup, my dealer uses CDK and we are doing hand written repair orders and estimates right now. Our parts department can't bill anything to an invoice, or even see if we have stuff in stock. They can still look up part numbers because that is a different system. It's a clusterfuck, but I'm already at my incentive bump and about to start a 4 day weekend, so not too worried. If it's still screwed when I come back Tuesday, that's going to suck balls.
Everything has been digital and on a computerized closed net system since 2001 when we had our first job out of a storage unit.
Also, I only park the cars in the back yard, I don't work on them there... but my garage does have a nice big shade tree next to it! ;)
Is your race just one day or is it like a weekend event? I think I have seen some of the earlier Street Outlaws races on TV back when that bald dude was flagging... I think that was the name of it.

They do 2 days of racing but I'm only going to 1. They've come a long way since the early days. Now they have cars that cost over 200 grand with super light tube chassis and billet racing engines, some pushing 5000hp.

Yo,
No doubt you'll be taking the Big 460 truck, so enjoy yourself...
Did you add 1-too-many zero's in that HP number ???

It's a 3 hour drive, so I took the Honda for MUCH better fuel economy. I did not add an extra zero. These guys all run billet engines with massive power adders. Hell, these guys have been putting 2500 hp down on the street, they get to really crank them up on a good track surface. They aren't quite playing at top fuel dragster or funny car level though, those have 10k hp.
Having to replace the entire AC system on a 2005 Honda Accord due to the compressor comming apart!... damn shame too, it's been hot as balls all week hovering around 95F! Talk about starting the summer out right -- we could easily see 100F temps by the end of July and beginning of August!
Sounds like some good times! I rode the Dragster at Cedar Point -- pretty cool it was! Orignially is was a simulation of actually riding in a top fuel funny car... but they had an accident (something come apart and hit someone who was waiting in line) and it shut down for awhile -- but now they are opening it back up and it looks even scarier! I'm guessing they moved the waiting area further away from the lines... I'm somewhat anxious to try it myself.
System was still down when I left. Reynolds is the other big name in dealer software and we used to have that, but switched to CDK a few years ago. Last I heard, it could be a couple days to a couple weeks before it's back.
Systems are STILL down for dealers! This is really going to end up costing a lot of money!
I don't see how CDK is going to be able to weather this! And where is this great AI supercomputer? If super-computing and AI was so intelligent -- encryption would be EASY to overcome! This wouldn't be a problem!
And I'm just curious how any anti-virus / security system worth it's oats wouldn't detect the system that was encrypting itself!
I dunno, but I have to believe there are some REALLY PISSED OFF dealership owners about now... not to mention mechanics, sales people, service writers and even the parts counter trolls!
Do you think this will cause CDK to lose business? Has there been any talk from Dealership owners about how long before they just change out systems? I know it's complex, and many have contracts -- but something like this just seems like it would be a contract breaker!
How long has it been now?

You ain't wrong, it's a clusterfuck, especially for the parts department.
For my part, I have to create a word document for every vehicle showing the concern, and correction for each issue, make manual time punches for time spent on each line, photograph the time punches, then upload both to Microsoft Teams so the warranty administrator can manually enter data in the Ford claims system.
At some point, somebody will have to create repair orders in CDK and copy and paste every one of these into the system. Our parts department is making hand written invoices, that will also have to be manually entered at a later time. There's really no way to track inventory. Thankfully our dealer group doesn't use CDK payroll, because a lot of dealers do, and have resorted to paying people an average of what they typically make since that's all they can really do.
Today I bought a driver's window motor for my truck, and the parts guy made a hand written invoice and calculated tax with a calculator, which is how they are doing everything. At least the credit card machine worked and doesn't run through CDK.
I think the sales department is bringing title paperwork to the DMV because there is no way to electronically submit title applications right now.

I would be too! Clearly the overwhelming majority of Teamsters support Trump, and because the Unions are bought by the Democrats -- the Teamsters management won't give Trump the nod! Even though the majority of the dues paying constituents are backing Trump!
I'm actually a little shocked YOU would even care, seeings how you're all in on another installed candidate that you didn't vote for - Kamala.

You might be right, I thought she was on there with him but I don't remember for sure. Either way I have no problem with how the party selected her during the DNC after Biden dropped out. Luckily he dropped out before the DNC nomination process so she can for sure be on the general election ballot. That will settle the issue for you hopefully.
Deep down inside I think you also know that Biden has been a rudderless ship for quite some time now... leaving it to the last minute wasn't by coincidence, it was a lie and cheating to force a pre-determined outcome.
Democrats are all about perverting the system and cheating in ways that fall into gray areas... Democrats are also extortionists -- IE: accept this installed candidate who has ZERO votes in the primary election (because she wasn't on the ballot) or don't vote.
How do you think they got Joe Biden to step aside? He was extorted! That is how!
Why do you think they waited until the last minute? To extort YOU into accepting their nominee -- certianly not the one YOU voted for.
It's all making sense now... Biden has been out of his damn mind for over a year now! It's how Democrats from NY to Georgia were able to get away with prosecuting a former POTUS (Trump). Because there was no-one at the wheel!
And honestly, I think the electorate will prove that you would have been better off running Biden than Harris.
But we will see.

The party delegates picked her, that's how it works. If I wanted to be a delegate I'm sure I probably could get more involved in the party and become one. The party is run by those who show up, and I'm good with that. Why do you care how a different party selects their candidate? You are the only one bothered by this, and it's not even your party.
