One of my favorite cars while growing up was the Ford Mustang. My era was the 1988-1993's. I was a fan of the notchback and have owned more than 5 Mustang 5 liters. Hey that sounds catchy!
Anyway nothing in the world feels like a modified 302 with nitrous like the 88-93 EFI Mustang. The legendary sound with Flowmasters will ALWAYS raise the hair on the back of my neck. When they first come out they were called "Ass Hole" Cars. This was becuase there were so many of them they were considered to be like "Ass Holes" as in everyone has one. Later on down the line the "Ass Hole" reffered to the driver. This was a well earned reputation since the popularity of these fine cars made way for one of the best bolt on aftermarket rush since I dont know when. It was very inexpensive to set up a Mustang to do low 12's with minor finances! Therefore everyone thought they were ass holes becuase they WON.
Another fine example of just how well this car was marketed was its base price new of about $9000LX - $12,000GT. Today a 5.0 Mustang with low miles and in good condition will fetch almost every bit if not MORE than what it cost new! Thats NOT something a lot of other vehicle manufactures can say.
If you have never driven a 5.0 Mustang you should. Make sure its a manual with a nice set of flowmasters and off road exhaust. From the moment you get inside you know your in a very light, very overpowered car. Just taking off slow in first you can tell this pony wants to run. Give it some more gas and drop the hammer into second and you will always get a nice second gear burn out sure to get anyones attention. 2nd is real nice and quick and if you have ever driven the Mustang you know that 3rd gear means C-YA! And the rest is history.

Or how about that green one you got rear ended in that was full of Vodka? Your dumb ass was going to drive it home but the cop said it was leaking gas, why didnt you just tell him it was the 5 bottles of Smirnoff leaking out that had gotten busted in the trunk?
Back in the 1990's Fords offered a very fine quality product for a VERY FAIR price.
$10,000-$14,000 could get you a VERY NICE, Brand NEW Mustang 5.0 LX Notchback, but gawd forbid don't pay extra for the AOD automatic transmission as they were trash. Then again the T5's werent all the great either but it usually took some modifications to exceed the horsepower in order to take them out. As such there was no real way to blame Fords for that. I smoked several AOD's in stock trim on the expressway however, then again I was driving slightly over the posted limit. Ironiclly the first AOD I blew up was trying to race a 90's SEC on the expressway, I would have had that fucker if it wouldnt have been for smoking the Overdrive band! A well known weakness on the AOD.
I should also mention that Ford's also sent me a check in the mail for an ignition module due to a recall, however that was only because they got sued in a class action suit.
Another weakness of the Fox body Mustangs were the rear control arm boxes that would seperate from the chassis, but again, this only happend when you modified them with Nitrous or excessive HP mods. Even then you had to be running wrinkle wall full on slicks to get them to seperate from the chassis, so again, nothing that Fords could be blamed for.
Now days V8 Mustangs cost what? $40,000-$60,000? Yet a well cared for 1988-1993 5.0 Mustang is worth as much or MORE than it sold for new!
I doubt the newer Mustangs (Less the very RARE ONES) will ever be able to match the re-sale value of the 1988-1993.
