Any suggestions on how to get the headlights on an 89 420 SEL working properly? I had a right High Beam out so I replaced the bulbs on both sides just because of the age of the car, and not knowing the history. Now I have a left low beam out, and right high beam is still out. trade light bulbs side to side no effect, checked the fuses all good. I am out of ideas. Don
Try tapping on the headlight relay and see if that will change anything. Really odd I must admit.
I know some of these questions may seem like no-brainers but did you replace with new bulbs? Are the bulb sockets melted or damaged at all? Are they inserted all the way? Are you using the proper bulbs? Just want to get the easy stuff out of the way is all.
The lamp relay is located in your fuse box and is the longest on in there. I have included a photo of what it looks like.
Let me know if this makes any diffrence. Some more details about this car would help too. Details like how long you have had the car, did they ever work right since you had it? Just wondering so I can rule out a possible front end collision that may have caused a splice in the wires. How are the rest of the lights?
I did replace the bulbs with new ones, to my knowledge the car has never been in a front end collision. Both low beam headlights did work but have had off and on problems with the right high beam. The sockets look great no corrosion, or heat damage. I have only had the car since December, I have a good track of the service done on the car but I don't see any report of problems with headlights or electrical in the repair orders. I will try the headlight relay tommorrow when I have time. The only other exterior light that doesn't work is one license plate light bulb, and I think that is a corroded socket. Don
