Well, I picked up a rust free 93 F250 from Washington state that I've been fixing up. Tomorrow is my day off of work but I'm going in anyway to overhaul the rear diff.
Seems the previous owner who did a front axle swap to replace the twin I-beam with a solid Dana 60 didn't realize you have to have the same gear ratio in each axle.
Presently the front axle is 3.55 ratio and the rear is 4.10. The rear diff is noisy so I'm rebuilding it with 3.55 gears.
I've also been trying to keep up with Trump's antics, but that seems to be a full time job these days.
That "is" some ass-kicking capacity you're dealing with !!!
Are you sure the previous owner isn't "Stoma" ?...It sounds like the kind of axle-swap he'd be involved with....
Should the beast have EFI, it will offer surprisingly good mileage I'm told, if you can keep the RPM's down at cruising speeds. They'll also burn through the bitumen & into the dirt whilst laying a monster burn-out, so watch your tyres ! ( Is it cheaper to convert it to just two-wheel-drive, so you can get good mileage, or is that just not a done thing ) ?
I hope you like it enough to keep it, as a set of Roller Rockers is likely all that's needed to keep the engine going strong without major maintenance for a long time !
As for Rastus, I haven't been up to too much of late to be honest, especially since a cold & flu have taken hold of getting out & doing things. Typical spring rain & sunshine weather 10-times a day doesn't help either.
I've found another local bike-shop that's a Kawasaki dealer, but the guy running the show races Suzuki GSXR-750's, from the same era as my 1100...This means my parts problem for my gearbox will be over at last, & I can give the "bird" to the other tosser who's had me on hold for the last 6-months or so LOL ! I only went in there by-chance, as my regular store were too busy to fit a set of tyres on my 1100's wheels, as they had a man down. A friend at local gas-station recommended this other place as she gets her work done there.
Once I can get a nice clear day of regular sunshine, I'll be fitting chain & sprockets, a hydraulic-clutch slave-cylinder seal, & 3 x rear wheel bearings onto the 1100, so I can ride it around & get the most out-of its remaining registration. I'll just avoid using 3rd-gear, & all should be well. The Hayabusa is also just about due for new tyres, so that's why I'm keen on getting the 1100 fitted-out with the parts I have had for ages. ( I didn't fit the chain etc etc as I wanted to do the gearbox & everything in the one-big-hit ).
Not much else to say really, except that all my major certificates for my Marine Engineering career are due for re-validation, & that's going to cost quite a bit of money, so we'll see how much I'm left with before I go spending heaps & tooling-up for the 1100's gear-box over-haul. I've got until the end-of-the-year to get the re-validation sorted out, but every Certificate goes out to different people all wanting a course completed & big money to give you another one lol ! And still there's no work on the horizon to look forward to, but it's cheaper to keep them all validated now, than to do it at a later stage, so I've been advised.
Cheers,
Rastus

PowerStroker, I'm quite green with envy at the fact that you guys can even regularly acquire these awesome Big-Blocks...I've always wanted one, just for that laid-back torque that only a large V-8 can deliver...I'm betting cautious throttle use will return at least 16-mpg, but it is a truck, so I guess there's a lot of mass to pull, & cabin area to move through the air at speed. I still think you'll better 10-mpg though.
Keep us posted to your progress !!! There's got to be plenty of food there for posting in the Ford section with a new thread for sure. And some photo's would be good too !
Cheers,
Rastus

I don't dink around with small blocks bro. She's got a 460.
For you metric people, that would be 7.5 liters of woop yo ass
Oh I remember them old fuel injected 460's! I didn't see too many of them back in the day, so I'd imagine they are now pretty rare. Buddy of mine had one and honestly the entire truck was pretty tricked out. Also had a buddy with the 454 SS Chevy truck.
I like big blocks, but they are also big $$$. I may have to put a little juice on the Vette to keep up with you two speed demons.

Well, I'm at least glad to hear you're not twiddling your thumbs over there. I just got the renewal notice in the mail yesterday for my mechanics licenses, thank goodness I don't have to re-certify until 2019 for one of the categories. Seems like you got quite the bike selection going on over there! I'd agree with you on ensuring all parts are present before tearing it apart for service. I think I burnt up my rear tire on my bike the first month doing burnouts, I soon quit that $hit when I learned how much they cost and the amount of hassle involved in changing them! LOL
My new acquisition has been treating me well, although I must say it spend more time in the garage than it does on the road. I don't drive it in the rain, and I am pretty much waxing her every other week now. I am starting to appreciate this traction control as it's really great for getting the jump on someone off the line, without raising the eyes of the local police with all that tire squeeling.
Should be soon now that I can start looking for a parts truck for my 2003 F250, which I plan on sticking with the 6.0 liter. If I ever complete the project Im going to drive out and drag PowerStrokers wimpy gas engine F250 around the block @ 1/4 throttle. LOL

That would be a true statement PowerStroker, but that may change soon! As much grief as that truck has caused me over the years I honestly think I'll put it back together if only just to run it thru the mud again! LOL
I been seeing some really good prices for donor / parts trucks to get it back to it's former glory! And that's even with the 6.0 PSD!
Oh, and I forgot... 1/4 enrichment, not throttle! You're slipping PowerStroker, normally you would have made special mention of such improper terminology.

Actually PowerStroker, I am really shocked that you're not into a Ford Diesel truck yourself!? You're the Diesel expert, you should drive one!
How come you haven't pounced on one of them dealership lemons or something yet PowerStroker? You just don't have the need for anything like that? I mean going with a 460 F250 you're pretty much already there anyway! I think you should get a Diesel PowerStroker, deep down you know it's calling!

The dealer that had the contract to fix lemon law buy backs closed about 10 years ago. (I can't believe I've been a member here that long) Now those are done somewhere in Chicago. After I sold my 00 F150 I picked up a 99 F250 with a 7.3... I soon realized how shitty the body on that truck was though. It had a Maco quality patch job done and didn't meet my standards. Once I unloaded that I found this 93 F250 and fell in love. There is a lot less to go wrong on this truck than any Diesel.

I'd have to agree with you there! As you know I was mulling a 351 swap on the ole' 2003 PSD! If only because I just hated having to pull the cab or get punished working on it with the cab still on. Still, I do miss the smell, sound and power of the 6.0 Diesel... I don't however, miss all the problems. I had most all mine worked out until I sunk it in the mud and it got all bashed up off-roading. But honestly, if I can find a reasonably priced roll over I'm in business! And you know what? I'll fu@king run that b1tch right back in the mud when I'm done, only this time I won't try and go thru Jeep trails! I'd give $100 to see the faces of them Jeep guys after I got done making new ruts in the F250 while it had them super swampers on it!
The 460 would have more than enough power and is reliable. Short drives, cold mornings and much less expensive parts. I can see why you went the route of the 93 F250. I'd seriously scrap my truck if it weren't for the kid wanting to bring it back to life so bad! Then again I still have that convertible Mercedes 420 project in the bull pen, but that was more or less my pipe dream that he got sucked into. Now that he has his Firebird I'm on my own with that project. Think I am just going to scrap the shell at this point because it's taking up too much room, and I've never been a big fan of the 420's anyway, it was just my very first W126 daily driver is all.
Big blocks are where it's at... But I have always had you pegged for a Diesel... But I'm sure this won't be the last truck you'll buy! Post some photos up of the repairs in the truck forum, I had a few early 90's F150's and F250's but all were flipper cars with 302's or 351's! They were tough! Tore the frame on one of them, think I posted it somewhere in the Ford truck section.
