So this month I purchased a 19 Foot Baja Sport 190.... Been out on the lake 4 times and camping for a week at Higgins Lake too.
Does about 45 MPH on the water, which isn't that fast by modern jet ski standards (70 MPH), but it does one thing a JetSki can't do, haul 6 people and multiple skiers or tubers. That is does real well! She was in real fine shape and I have been trying to improve on an already classic boat. 200 HP MerCruiser Alpha One 4.3 V6 inboard/outboard. I been muling a boat for awhile now but this one came around at the right price and saved me from really going over my head on a pair of new jet-skis.

Thanks PowerStroker! It's been quite a lot of fun too..
But you know how boats are, always doing something to them... I haven't had any issues thus far, so it's been a good boat, but I keep trying to improve it here and there. To be honest I'd like to go a little faster but don't want to mess with the engine because it's just that clean and all original.

Boats are by-design, limited by hull-shape, that determines how fast you can go...HP numbers at some-point will only churn the water faster.
Unless you can lift the hull out-of-the-water so it only skips on the water at speed, you'll be limited.
45-mph will still get you there fast enough ( with some safety ) on the water.

You would think 70 MPH is totally doable in this type of vessel since they are able to pull off them kinds of speeds with the twin 454 MerCruisers in the bigger Baja boats. Sure 45 is plenty quick on the water, but after having been on one of them Yamaha SHO Cruisers that do 70 MPH on the water at the drop of a hat, well... It leaves you feeling like 45 is just 45.
I am not thinking of changing to a bigger motor, or even adding more horsepower, just saying a little more top end would be nice. I am told a good prop combination could squeak out another 5 MPH or more though, and I guess I'll have to try all 3 of the props that came with the boat to see which one goes the quickest.

Stoma hasn't been banned either, as his post and account still show up on the active users list, although his account is in peril and locked up in the Gitmo section.

I should also mention that the Baja Sport 190 w/ Mercruiser Alpha-One inboard / outboard is 100% American made! Even the trailer and wench were made right here in Michigan! When I purchased it, due to the age, I had to pay cash - which went into the hands of a hard working American!
Every time I take her out on the water it reminds me that it was better to get a boat than a Jet-Ski, or perhaps it's just better to have a boat and a pair of jet skis? I was looking at another one of them Yamaha SVHO FX Cruisers @ almost $15k! But honestly, they weren't making any deals... Yet Kia is doing a buy one, get another car free deal... Yet Yamaha won't budge a few measly thousand..
Guess now days the max speed they can allow them to go is 70 MPH, so it's turned into this big race as to how fast they can get to 70 MPH... lol, guess there is some aftermarket stuff you can buy to unlock them to do a little over 90 MPH right out of the box... 90 MPH is cooking on the water! Plus the speed limit on most lakes around here is 45 MPH, which is about all my boat does wide open unless it's just me... So that has probably kept me out of a lot of trouble this year alone.
Very grateful for the fun with the boat and newfound toys. Everything except for the Vette is for sale, just because I realize I can't horde 8 cars and a boat... But still, it's a job.. A fun job, but it's still a job..
