Previously in another thread I asked what North Korea brought to the table, in light of the recent proposed meeting between Fat Kim and Trump.
But now the world has seen how close China and North Korea are, and we are getting into what many are calling a "trade war" with China. So far the trade war has been tit for tat @ $50 billion in tariffs, and now President Trump is asking for an additional $100 billion in tariffs.
Trump has also pointed out that under the WTO, China is given all kinds of concessions for being an "emerging economy", but the truth of it now is that China is no longer an emerging economy - and has gotten rather large for it's britches as it tries to maintain concessions for being an emerging economy, when in fact all these decades of concessions have allowed China to become more and more secure at the expense of the United States. It's typical for China to act this way, as they have always been guilty of currency manipulation and playing us behind our backs with just about all of Asia. That being said, it's safe to say that China needs to be cut off.
What does China bring to the table, besides cheap slave labor? And is the cheap slave labor really cheap when American companies give up intellectual property rights to China in exchange for having their products made by China's army of slave labor?
What would happen if we just banned ALL good from China? Would they just set up another proxy like Taiwan to sell their goods to the USA?
Does the USA not have the ability to maintain without China? Wouldn't cutting China off right now help to bring more new state of the art manufacturing back to the USA? No doubt the initial shock would rattle the markets and increase prices - but over time it would have a very profound effect on China's bottom line. If Trump really meant business he would turn back all Chinese ships right now and ban Chinese imports all together! Why? Because look what is happening, we are having to meet with a worthless nation like North Korea because China is enabling them to use threats and intimidation as a commodity! That's basically what it boils down to! Meanwhile they are militarizing their shores and trying to create alliances with other nations to usurp American influence! These are not the kind of actions that should merit WTO concessions or even our business! Let China stand on it's own, cut them off!
How about this one, what if we cut of trade with China right now and then open up trade with North Korea when Trump meets with Kim? This would be a tit for tat slap in the face for China as they would now have to deal with North Korea! Perhaps as North Korea's economy and standard of living improves they will start pointing them nukes at China as they strive to protect their golden egg. It's an absolutely radical idea that is WAY OUT THERE, but let's be honest - the reality of war with North Korea and China is also a WAY OUT THERE proposal also that could start WWIII.
Just how sound is China if they do not have the USA buying all their cheap garbage? Just how sound is China when they are no longer getting concessions for being an up and coming economy? Just how sound is China when their people start to feel the pinch and uprise from decades of being treated like slaves? Just how secure is China's communistic government when their people decide they are tired of being oppressed?
What are your thoughts?

I'm also of a protectionist mentality with regard to trade. I wouldn't say cut off trade completely, but targeted tarrifs would be a good idea. I think the tariffs that Trump implemented on Steel and Aluminum are about the worst possible thing that could be done though. The reason I say this, is because one of the most effective ways to create wealth is to turn a raw material in to a finished good which is then sold for several times the cost of said raw materials. By increasing the cost of raw materials, you are creating an incentive for more American companies to outsource manufacturing to countries like China. What Trump should have done is put a tarrif on finished goods entering the U.S. That way it would incentivize manufacturing here.
A great number of Republicans agree with me btw. But who cares, as long as Trump is a macho man you'll just follow him right through the gates of Hell with a smile on your face... Just as the Nazi party followed their macho man Adolph.
Trump has his issues, but lets be honest about something - who knows what kind of Freak-Show Kim, Xi or Putin is behind closed doors! Probably much worse than Trump, don't you think?
I somewhat got my head around what you were saying about the raw materials, but I am hoping that Trump knew this wasn't going anywhere and was planning something much-much more profound down the line. An extra $100 billion tariff is a good start, but I don't think it's anywhere near what needs to be done. Given the fact China is aiding and abetting North Koreas violent extortion threats I feel an all out BAN of Chinese goods is necessary! We are talking about China backing a mad-man who is thumbing his nose at nuclear pacts set by nations that could easily destroy all of North Korea within 10 hours. I feel this is VERY SERIOUS and if China thinks it can get away with this sort of intimidation by proxy then let's pull back the curtain and bring them front and center in this battle. The fact they think they can get away with it bothers me to no end! I could live with what they are doing behind our backs if we cut them off! If all goods from China were banned it would not bother me as much what China was doing, because we wouldn't be supporting it!
I have never ONCE sold anything to anyone in China - EVER! Yet next to everything here is made in China! What does that say about the playing field for Americans in Asia?
Awhile back I had a customer pay almost $30 for a few turn signal and blinker bulbs at a retail store because I was out of stock. Upon ordering more on eBay I had inadvertently purchased some directly from China (didn't notice they were being shipped from China). Anyway, I got 10 bulbs for $3.45 with free shipping! FROM CHINA! That means they packaged 10 bulbs, paid for shipping, paid eBay and PayPal fee's, not to mention manufactured 10 bulbs. How is that possible PowerStroker? It would cost me more than $3.45 to send 10 bulbs to my next door neighbor thru the mail! And that's just the cost for me to SHIP IT! President Tump may have omitted the biggest exploiter of the USPS when he took aim at Amazon because clearly China is just filling barges full of packages and dumping them off at the USPS to be delivered for rates less than what you or I could send something to our next door neighbor!
It's going to take an all out BAN on goods from China! Because the next step is war anyway! Perhaps these incremental tariffs by Trump are just his way of gradually working towards that end?

I think this is where it's going... Perhaps not a 100% blockade but a tariff on 100% of Chinese imports. It must be what China wants because they keep playing the game with Trump..

Expect prices of things to climb should manufacturing of goods move away from China, & other S/E Asian countries.
Don't forget here that CEO's of various companies & share-holders are making big-dollars on pennies invested.
If we could eliminate/control greed to some extent, everyone would benefit IMO. But that won't happen...And that's not how our capitalist societies operate...

On one hand it's refreshing to see common sense prevailing as my logic holds in past musings.. But no, I do not look forward to paying more!
I've actually been mulling stocking up on common car parts to re-sell while they are really low in cost. Take wheel bearings and such, right now you can pick up two for under $60 online, but retail around here for the same China bearing in a different box are $160 each! I seen this once with Mercedes parts too, where they were cheap then went up. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet but I have noticed a lot of inexpensive car parts that used to be a steal are slowly creeping up in price.
Problem is most of this creep is just the retailers bracing rather than actual cost being passed down. Once the pain is felt by the wholesaler it will be at least doubled as it's passed down from vendor to customer. I plan on writing up a little thread about the China vs America costs to illustrate how these subsidized and inexpensive Chinese imports really hurt our business here.

I'm all for increasing domestic manufacturing. I worry though at this point, to do so cold turkey could lead to massive inflation here at home, and foreign policy issues abroad as China joins more with Russia against us. To potentially inflict a recession here at home while simultaneously making our adversaries join forces is a recipe for disaster. We need a president who plays chess instead of whack a mole.
I think Trump is doing a great job! Can you think of anyone better to claw back some of these losses over the past few decades? I certainly can not!
It's my hope that the President will maintain his thick skin and steady hand to level the playing fields. I think Trump has an eye for business and money and in the world of politics and international trade I think his personal experience with wealth amounts to "Chess Master" in his arena.
Your community organizer was more of a checkers player in the ways of international trade and such, sorry.

Trump, Donald John (1946- ), American property developer, born in Queens, New York, educated at Fordham University and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Known as one of Manhattan's most grandiose and controversial builders, Trump first made his mark at age 28 when he convinced the city to build a convention centre on the site of the defunct Penn Central railway yards, on which he had secured options; he also negotiated with the city and Hyatt Corporation to renovate the Commodore Hotel into the Grand Hyatt Hotel (1980). He is perhaps best known for building Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.
At its peak in the late 1980s Trump's billion-dollar empire included Trump Parc; more than 24,000 rental and co-op apartments; the Trump Shuttle airline, ownership of the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League; and casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey, including Trump's Castle, as well as sumptuous private homes. He was the author of Trump: The Art of the Deal (1987) and other books about his career.
By 1990 Trump was facing bankruptcy, unable to meet payments on over US $2 billion in loans owed to banks. He was able to secure emergency financing at various times but had to cede operational control of most of his property to the creditor banks and gradually traded control of considerable parts of his empire including the Trump Shuttle, casinos, and the Plaza Hotel in order to secure more favourable debt restructuring. By August 1995 the sale of the Plaza Hotel had been completed, and in December Trump purchased a 70-storey tower on Wall Street, planning to renovate and lease it. Trump opened new hotel and office premises in the city in 1996, and the so-called Trump World Tower, a 90-storey residential building in New York, was completed in 2001.

Bernie is retarded. Combs his hair with a static charged balloon like Rex said. If he thinks he is Eisenstein and tried to look like him he is even more retarded than we think than we think.
I can't for the life of me understand why even one single person would support him.
So he could tell his boy Trump what to do next. It's clear that Putin somehow owns Trump. I have a theory as to why, but I'll wait for the Mueller report.
It would be interesting to see if the U.S. could actually go back to producing pretty much everything again. If the boomer generation weren't all retiring I'd say probably, but it seems there is already a labor shortage right now. Sounds like a recipe for huge inflation if not thought out very carefully.
Well let's dig a little deeper into it PowerStroker...
In the absence of a tariff, that will most certainly offset this "welfare" you speak of for business and the wealthy, can we really compete with what amounts to China's communist wages? Could anyone survive on what the typical China man or woman is paid each year?
According to CNNs online global wage calculator, which uses data from the International Labor Organization, the average annual salary of a worker in Chinas private sector was 28,752 yuan (about $4,755)
Does that sound like a wage that the average American can live on? $4,755 a year? Of course not! This is not communist China!
So what are we to do? Well, since China has been getting awfully arrogant lately and stealing our intellectual property, ripping off and censoring it's own people, trying to take over the surrounding seas, and otherwise totally ignoring the fact they are not only ripping of the USA, they are ripping off their own people - there really is no other course of action that will fix this. Making Chinese goods as expensive as other markets levels the playing field since there is no way an American business is going to be able to compete with a billion slaves working for a bowl of rice, meanwhile their leaders drink expensive liquor with another ruthless Dictator, Fat Kim, while his people eat grass! Is that how we want to live?
Its really up to the people in China because if they like living that way (all one billion+ of them) then there isn't much we can do for them. They are very racist in China, do you think they have pockets of their country that are called "American Town"? Hell no! Yet just about every state has their own "China town" here in the USA.

I'd nearly guarantee you that the average Chinese person would love to migrate elsewhere in the world, & likely the West somewhere...But they have 2 x problems...
1. Communist China itself keeping them as slaves. 2. Mr.Trump.
Tariffs will only starve & murder innocent Chinese that struggle already day to day.
I do like how manufacturing appears to be growing again in the US-of-A however...Perhaps the solution lay in the taxes a US-of-A importer of Chinese goods has to pay, so that the home market becomes more competitive, & not the trade-war with China itself.
You want to buy & sell Chinese goods ?...That's fine, but here's your new taxes you have to pay...

It is the hope of America that the people of China will rise up and install a government for the people, by the people. The only way the majority of China is going to buck up to the communist minority is to level the playing field. Make the cost for China the same as what they are for a free society if they want to sell in them!
The top people in China are some of the most slippery and slimy people you would ever meet! They really think that if America quits buying their stuff they can continue to sell our designs and technology to everyone else and that is where we have to step in and ensure any country buying their bootleg merchandise is also penalized. Xi's Belt and Road initiative is basically a pirate charter for China to sell American intellectual property to others to undercut America yet again!
It's way out of hand and if I never seen "Made in China" ever again it wouldn't bother me in the least!
But again, we have these other shady actors in this from Taiwan to Hong Kong! While in the past these countries have built up their manufacturing to circumvent trade barriers or draw attention away from China, it's still very clear these places ARE CHINA! Shell countries if you will... Until they demand their independence we should tread very careful in Asia as we all know that with such incredible racism in the region, they stick together and have no problems playing games with America... One only needs to look back at Vietnam and the Korean War to see what kind of games they like to play.
If Trump is to win this trade war he has no choice but treat ALL of Asia as we will treat China, because behind closed doors China has closer relations with all the Asian nations than we do, for Trump or anyone to forget that would be a grave mistake. Not even Russians are crazy enough to put someone in power for life! China and North Korea on the other hand, well...

No we are already getting better trade deals, being able to sell your goods in our cash rich economy is a strength we have not taken advantage of since well before Bill Clinton took office...
Leaders in China will not allow their SLAVES to starve as it would cost them too much money...
We are seeing the results already...
will there be a cost...
YES...there is simply not a way to fix all the problems of this country with no consequence at all...
Will it be really bad...it could be a whole lot worse...
a trade war will not create HYPER INFLATION...that is already in the works...from all that quantitative easing...
but we are bringing companies back inside the US...the FICA surplus that dried up in 2015, is already back to a surplus again...that quickly...
the no longer possible (according to Obama) 4% GDP growth also back...what he should have said it was not possible without large tax cuts...
when cuts stimulate growth...the cuts are good, now congress will need to balance the budget to the new HIGHER revenues due to volume it returned within our borders.
corporate tax cuts are brilliant...as they only get rolled into our cost anyway...and they chase away business...individual taxes should never be allowed to exceed 20%...
adjust federal spending to the revenue that is now created...and slowly pay down the debt....
it is really not rocket science...just simple math...
Both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama pathetically failed to stand up to Chinas economic imperialism and global expansionism. Neither had the backs of working Americans; instead, they just wanted to look like good global players to their big business donors and foreign policy experts - all of whom are now utterly humiliated as the true scale of the establishments China debacle becomes apparent.

I don't normally quote myself but I read this article about how Trump has put a 400% tariff on Vietnamese steel due to their China bootlegging!
I'm also of a protectionist mentality with regard to trade. I wouldn't say cut off trade completely, but targeted tarrifs would be a good idea. I think the tariffs that Trump implemented on Steel and Aluminum are about the worst possible thing that could be done though. Iron is a raw material...
Steel is a product....
we can turn iron into steel here and employ Americans to provide the labor...
if we were taxing IRON that would be different...we are not taxing the raw material....
Yup everything is about to get more expensive, isn't that the definition of inflation?
Many things can raise the price of products....
when demand causes a price increase that is not inflation...
Inflation is when the value of the dollar falls...
The end result may seem equivalent, but the is a monumental difference between the two...
conflating raising the cost of imports as inflation is dishonest...
tariffs are how you regulate global trade....
and it is REALLY SIMPLE...when two countries TRADE as long as there is BALANCE there is no need for tariffs...
when it becomes completely unbalanced you use tariffs to regulate the trading...
China has been getting concessions for three decades...concessions they should no longer be getting...
You want to really make a difference in GLOBAL WARNING stop producing steel in countries doing nothing about carbon emissions and bring steel production back to the US,
Is steel production good for Vietnam? I am sure it is...is it good for the planet....no it is not...
If Vietnam trades enough with us there is no need to apply a tariff to the steel the produce...
but it would still be better long term to not use third world countries to exploit labor cost differences and continue to produce such products here in America, where we have taken strong steps to reduce carbon foot prints...
but the left is BLIND to this in their quest to create a carbon tax...
Just how sound is China if they do not have the USA buying all their cheap garbage? Just how sound is China when they are no longer getting concessions for being an up and coming economy? Just how sound is China when their people start to feel the pinch and uprise from decades of being treated like slaves? No, that is the definition of HYPER-INFLATION!
But Nuffan will tell you everything is okay, everything is fine and that inflation is non-existent.
It's coming soon! Get your stock up, I am sure all Trumps wealthy buddies have been given massive loans to buy up shitloads of goods to be on the ready when they cut off China, this way his buddies can make KILLER profits on their warehoused goods they bought for peanuts as they sell them to us for 1000-5000% markup!

Doesn't this guy get it!? They did the same thing to him during the G20! They told him what he wanted to hear so he would shut up, then told him to get fucked after the event ended.
Anyone care to say otherwise?

Our branches of Government need to work together in this global economy to win for the American people - regardless their political party!
If Trump was to declare a national emergency and BAN everything coming in from China - and if the Federal Reserve made interest rates negative at just the right time, it just might work!
The negative interest rates would allow everyone to refinance at better rates, and with China blocked out of the game Americans would open factories and start making the things we have relied on them for over the past few decades! Meanwhile China would flounder and even if they did sell the Treasuries it wouldn't matter much because interest rates would be negative!
Perhaps this is what Trump meant my negative interest rates, but the Fed has to be on-board. You would think these people have lines of communication and are working together for the good of the nation...

1.Why would people flock to a nation if it were in a national emergency as you say?
2.USA has the largest gold reserves in the world, and you know the golden rule, don't you Rastus?
LOL,
R1. Some folks around the world see the US-of-A as the lesser of 2 x evils, the other being Russia / Communism yadda, yadda, yadda. To have a child born in the US-of-A means it automatically becomes a citizen, & therefore has a better"chance" at the good-life. Uncle Sam bows to no-one, so folks want to jump-onboard the "winning team" lol...
R2. Gold is being found all the time, & no-doubt stock-piles will always be increasing. This is why it's most important for the US-of-A's aristocracy to act like true world-leaders for humanity & a better way-of-life, & not for greed, screenplay ethics, & self preservation.
But it's nearly time for another needless war...

Yes I was thinking the exact same thing Rastus, part of the reason I have been working so hard to re-structure.
Thing is you just never know when it's going to hit, and once it does people are going to start holding back.. the signals I am getting suggest the banks already know this and so does the Fed, thus the reason for yet another 25 basis point reduction on the interest rate today.

The past year I have noticed an incredible amount of poor quality parts from China! It has been WAY OUT OF HAND!
It would seem that China has flooded our market with their cheap Chinese knock offs that even our local auto-parts stores are having serious quality issues with their big box name brand lines as they are now the same cheap China made part that comes in the economy white label box!
Take for example Dorman, which is now so risky that you have over a 50% chance that the part you buy will be of poor quality and fitment that you'll have no choice but to buy factory!
Twice this year I have gotten bad tensioners made in China for cars made in Japan - I mean they are literally bad right out of the box! Timing belts made so poorly that they are fraying right out of the box! It doesn't end there! Outright design flaws that cause many to not even fit properly! It is like they copy something and pay no mind to what it's intended purpose is! Chinese control arms that are lose after a few weeks! Shocks that are advertised to be direct replacements yet do not even fit as intended!
It's worse than I have EVER seen it before! It is almost like they are doing it on purpose - AND THEY ARE!
I have had the bad fortune of having to deal with a few Chinese vendors on eBay the past few months and let me tell you - these people are cheating, lying and sneaky bastards! They will flat out lie to your face and send you another defective part knowing full well the product is defective! They will set up US accounts to sell their bootleg Chinese goods and then take payment in a Chinese account! It's hard to figure out who you are really doing business with when the payment receipt comes to you with a name written in Chinese!
I can not stress how much time I have lost this year due to cheap Chinese knock off parts! The time spent replacing the part for free wipes out any savings for me or the customer! Use to not be that way! Used to be a cheap Chinese part was just that, an inexpensive "economy" part that you could at least count on to last for a few years! Now you are lucky if it isn't bad right out of the box - IF IT EVEN FITS! The worse part is, while the quality is going down - the price is going up! So they are charging more on the front end, while making the parts even cheaper on the back end! All the while local manufactures are raising their prices in relation to the increased cost of the once was "economy" option - leaving many without any choice when all "economy" options are proven worthless right out of the box!
I think Trump would do well to just ban all China imports and let the chips fall where they may! If our market is going to become flooded with this cheap counterfeit aftermarket garbage that is just going to cost us all more money while putting our safety at risk - what is the point!? We already know China is way off it's rocker with how it treats it's own people and the lawlessness that is Communist China - but why are we even dealing with these people!? It is not like any agreement can be made with China where we could trust them! I have dealt with enough of them the past few months to know these people are crooked and they don't even care about what they are selling. They will lie, cheat and steal - all the while apologizing and asking you to accept yet another failure in a box from them!
I don't see how China is of any use to the United States... The poor quality they export, while demanding a quality import - it's ridiculous! It's beyond out of control! It has to be stopped!
