Rep. Eric Nuke em All Swalwell has campaigned primarily on one issue, and thats gun control. Despite the supposedly broad support for restrictions on firearms within the Democratic base, Swallwell is polling only slightly better than my cat. Hes being beaten on the issue.

That means Swalwell had to up his game, which he did when he rolled out his gun control plan.

Lets take a look at this point by point.

• A 48-hour cooling-off period between the time a person purchases a firearm and the time they take possession of it.

This is a common proposal among Democrats who claim that it somehow prevents people from committing suicide or spur of the moment shootings. Except, they also tend to support euthanasia or assisted suicide, and theres little evidence to suggest that murderers wont murder if they cant get a gun right away. At best, potential killers and suicides will shift to another means. Thats it.

• Implement background checks for all firearm and ammunition purchases.

Heres the typical call for universal background checks, which wont do anything to stem the flow of black market guns on our streets. Thats where criminals are getting firearms, after all.

• Require that liability insurance be purchased before a person can buy, trade, or otherwise receive a firearm.

In other words, this increases the burden of exercising your Second Amendment rights until poor Americans cant even consider owning a firearm. Further, these are the same people who lash out at things like the NRAs Carry Guard program.

• Create a national firearm registry that is linked to individual firearms, and require that all purchases, transfers, and donations of firearms be mandatorily registered.

A national firearm registry wont do anything the moment a gun is stolen, which is where most black market guns come from initially. All it does is enable the government to know where to go looking for firearms if it decides to confiscate them.

• Prohibit individuals from purchasing more than one handgun per 30-day period.

A 30-day waiting period between purchases was tried in several places, and guess what? There hasnt been a change in the crime rates. Why? Because criminals dont buy guns through legal means. The only people this will impact are law-abiding gun owners.

In other words, want to buy a gun for you and your spouse? Forget it.

Also, forget buying a self-defense handgun and a .22 pistol for practice purposes.

• Prohibit the online sale of ammunition.

Another proposal that will make it more difficult on poorer shooters. Ammo purchases on the internet allow people to shop around for the lowest prices. It also means local stores have to be competitive with the internet market. Ending online sales does nothing except raise the cost.

• Ban and buy back bump stocks, large-capacity magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and silencers.

Bump stocks are already banned.

As for so-called large-capacity magazines, lets remember that the Parkland killer used 10-round magazines. So what would the restrictions do again?

• Prohibit individuals from hoarding ammunition in quantities exceeding 200 rounds per caliber or gauge.

First, this is completely unenforceable.

Second, 200 rounds per caliber? Thats not even a good range trip.

• Repealing the Protection for Lawful Commerce in Guns Act.

All that law means is that you cant blame a company for the misuse of their products. What Swalwell wants to do is make it so that you can hold a company liable for what someone else did without their help or knowledge. Its like suing Ryder for a truck attack.

• Prohibit states from arming teachers.

Heaven forbid that teachers be permitted to defend their own lives. Lets also ignore the fact that states like Utah have had armed teachers for years without incident.

So what does Swalwells push mean? Well, it means hes desperate. He needs attention from the Democratic base, and hes not getting it. Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker are outhustling him, and he knows it. Since thats supposed to be his issue, hes scrambling for relevancy.

Nothing hes proposing is remotely workable, viable, or likely to make any damn difference.

IDIOT TO THE MAX and a very punchable face too

Earlier today, I wrote about a high school principal who was suspended over a non-threatening pro-gun tweet. In that post, I note that this is just the latest example of an attempt to silence supporters of the Second Amendment and the ongoing effort to stigmatize gun ownership.

Ive outlined numerous examples already. Undoubtedly, you can supply still more, Im sure.

Also, without a doubt, this is rapidly becoming the new normal.

The idea is to push gun owners into silence. They want us unknown and unheard. If people realize that folks they know and respect are gun owners, that gun owners arent violent psychopaths who are itching for an excuse to kill someone, theyll realize that many of the anti-gun arguments dont hold water. Theyll recognize that many of the claims are nothing more than propaganda pretending to be reasoned thought.

We need to let people know were here, were armed, and to get used to it.

June is Gay Pride Month. It used to be a single week, but its expanded. Its a time where the LGBT community reaches out and celebrates their existence. It was used initially to remind people that gay folks existed and that they werent going to hide in the closet anymore.

Ironically, many of those celebrating are trying to push us into that same closet.

Well, Im not going. I dont care if you rebrand the metaphorical closet as a gun safe, Im not going and not because I make my living talking about the Second Amendment. Even if I didnt, Id still refuse to be rendered invisible.

So, Im proposing we make damn sure people know were here and we wont be silent. Next month is July, the month we celebrate our nations independence. How did we get independence? We shot people who thought we shouldnt have it, thats how.

As such, Im making a humble proposal to the pro-gun people throughout the land. I propose we make July Gun Pride Month.

We should have a month to celebrate our support of the Second Amendment. We should have a month where we remind people that we exist, that were their neighbors and co-workers, their doctors and lawyers, their bankers and checkout clerks; were everywhere. More importantly, we should remind people that were not going anywhere.

Gun control activists are lashing out, trying to create a world where gun ownership is socially taboo. They want us silent because if people know we exist, they might be interested in our thoughts on gun control. They might seek us out and get facts about guns and how theyre used for self-defense 2.5 million times per year, a number supported by CDC research. They might learn that, contrary to what some claim, many gun owners arent racist, xenophobic, sexist, homophobic haters who despise everyone not like them. Theyll learn that gun ownership transcends demographic boundaries. They might learn that everything gun control activists try to claim is wrong.

Not only that, but we get to spend the month of Independence Day celebrating the ultimate proof that we are truly independent. Lets start showing our support for gun rights by using the hashtag #GunPrideMonth on pictures of us using our firearms responsibly posted to social media. Lets start printing t-shirts and posters. Lets come up with new ideas to remind people that were gun owners and were Americans, for crying out loud!

Get used to it.
