Very often people will talk about how a Tesla puts out no emissions, but exactly how "true" is that!?
We all know as an electric motor operates there is an ozone or similar type odor that is emitting. And we all know whenever a battery is charged or discharged there are also odors that are harmful and must be vented into the atmosphere as not to concentrate in the cabin where people will be sitting for extended periods, often times with conditioned air and very little ventilation.
Knowing these facts, a Tesla DOES put out emissions, just not the traditional types that are closely monitored and regulated on internal combustion engines.
But lets talk about the cost on the environment to fast, or supercharge if you will - a Tesla.
Takes 150kw to charge two Tesla automobiles (split between two cars). They claim that they will be raising it to the order of around 350kw in future iterations. But what does this mean when you have 10 or 20 cars charging during peak times? That is a lot of juice! You would literally have supercharging stations drawing almost as much as a small city!! What are the cost to generate this increased demand and transmit it across the lines? What kind of radiation do people near these high powered lines get exposed to? What about the people in the stations and nearby the cars? These are all very real questions that no one is asking, much like how no one really asked the hard questions with regards to cellular phone signals - yet now getting into the 5g range people are starting to indicate that direct and close exposure to the tower is bad for your health! Logically one would have to think the same would be true about increasing the speeds of charging a Tesla!
I am reading more and more that Tesla claims that in 30 minutes they can charge a car up for 170 miles or range, although I am sure that is uder the most optimal conditions and waiting for someone to top off at the local gas station isn't like waiting 30 minutes or longer for someone on the supercharger.
Hearing reports that home charging can cost as little as $11 and some other reports suggesting 170 mile jolt from a supercharging center would be close to $28, maybe even more by now.
I am not saying that electric cars aren't a step in the right direction, or that they are bad... I am just being objective.

They were also talking about doing battery swaps however that proved to be too time consuming in of itself!
Then there is the fact that many people would be getting old battery packs at the end of their life cycle - much like what happens when you exchange a BBQ grill tank! If you have a new tank you never exchange it, because you can almost be sure the one you exchange it for will be at least 5 years old. That is the problem with exchanging! Someone with an old battery pack would just exchange it, then when they got a newer one charge it themselves until it got old - then exchange out.. meanwhile people with newer Tesla cars who didn't have a clue would roll in and lose their near brand new battery pack all because they wanted a fast swap recharge!

Battery pac covers about the whole chassis doesn't it?
I charged thousands of lipo batterirs for RC aircraft, some pretty good sized. Never noticed any smell or anything, didn't know anything was emitted. Motors? I don't know. Old diesel electric subs charged batts on the surface, used them to run electric motors undersea. I could see an old lead acid battery emiting under charge, discharge not so sure.
If you look at this video of them changing a model S battery, which was designed to be "quick swappable", you can see that anything could be further than the truth!
This one looks to have been leaking and also has what looks like acid burns and possible acid powder collecting around it! Even if it was just road dust and condensation you could imagine how bad this would be to have such amounts of condensation!
Also important to notice is the SIZE! This isn't your regular 12 volt car battery! LiPo have been known to be very volatile when unstable, then again so is a tank of full of gasoline but lets be honest has anyone ever seen one of these electric car cell / batteries blow up?

Of course Shawnee the experience you have with Li Po is not from an automotive standpoint, rather from small hand tools and RC models, right?
Because here in Michigan, with the salt and harsh weather - one has to wonder what dangers a Tesla will present as they age in normal all weather driving. Already it has been proven the door handles are less than ideal for cold icy weather, but what happens as the salt starts to eat these cars? Already on 12v systems the grounds like to rust or corrode quicker do to their ground fielding, and we see the reaction between aluminum and steel every day in the industry.
What are these sorts of conditions going to do to an older Tesla? Although Tesla may have been started on 2003 it would seem their first vehicle (the roadster) was not offered for sale until 2008 in which case it sold less than 3000 units up until 2012 which was their first major offering. So I'd be interested to see some of these vehicles after 5 years being daily driven in the rustbelt.
These cars are still VERY NEW and it's entirely possible something could go wrong! Take for instance Ford's Takata airbag recall - it's MASSIVE! Could Tesla survive such a major recall campaign? Doesn't seem they have the ability or footprint to service the cars it is churning out! If Tesla was hit with a government mandated recall and had to replace even a single part on a majority of it's cars the logistics involved could bankrupt the company I would think, but who knows... Right now Tesla is getting away with a LOT of things the rest of the industry wouldn't dream of! Having dealerships is just but one of them!

Yes it was RC models, some pretty large. I can't imagine a lipo being anything other than a lipo. Series and paralel them together till there is enough amperage and voltage for the app. They should be protected from elements in the chassis.
I think the rustbelt and the cold is going to negatively affect them for sure.
If it was some big recall the dems would bail it out!
