Rex, you could be a donor for this condition... Since you're so full of shit.

A 47-year-old man kept getting drunk from alcohol produced in his own gut. Doctors cured him with a poop transplant.

This rare condition, known as auto-brewery syndrome, occurs when the body produces alcohol inside the gut. Doctors tried to treat the man with a low-carb diet and antifungal medications, typically effective for this condition.

But it didn't help. The patient still experienced periodic, accidental drunkenness, in one case so severe that he lost his driving license after a random police check.

What finally did work was a poop transplant, according to a case study published August 18 in Annals of Internal Medicine.

Doctors were able to transfer the fecal microbiota, the bacteria present in poop, into the patient's small intestine. 34 months later, he continues to be symptom-free, according to the study.

The transplant was taken from the patient's 22-year-old daughter.

Auto-brewery syndrome causes yeast overgrowth to produce alcohol inside the body

Researchers have theorized that overgrowth of fungus, specifically certain types of yeast, is behind the unusual phenomenon. Those fungi feed off of carbohydrates a person consumes and produce alcohol, just as yeast can feed off grains to produce beer outside the body.

In these cases, patients often become highly intoxicated from the alcohol in their digestive system, even though they haven't been drinking. In one extreme example, a man was found to have four times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood due to auto-brewery syndrome.

Since blood sugar levels fuel the yeast-driven booze production, diabetics and people with cirrhosis can be particularly susceptible to auto-brewery syndrome. So can people who have undergone digestive tract surgery, or who have recently completed a course of antibiotics, as both can disturb naturally-occurring gut microbes and create an imbalance.

That was true for this newest case study. In addition to having recently taken antibiotics, the patient also had a gastric bypass surgery years earlier.

A low-carb diet is sometimes effective in treating the syndrome

Typically, a low carb diet can help treat this syndrome, since fewer carbs in your system means less sugar for the yeast to convert to alcohol. An antifungal medication can also help tame the overgrown yeast.

In this case study, however, nearly two months of low-carb eating and four weeks of medication were apparently unsuccessful.

The study authors recommend that fecal transplants be considered in similar cases of auto-brewery syndrome. As the research on the transplants improves, they could one day be standard practice to treat this illness.

Think I have read about this many years ago, maybe in here from one of you.

I have the receipts to prove neither I, nor the woman suffer from this condition. What I spend every month for the last twenty years for my woman to put up with me could probably put an inground pool in the back yard and fill it up with booze! LOL

I hope you two are getting physicals every year so the doctor can let you know when your liver

Enzymes are getting elevated so you can quit drinking so much before your

kidneys are shot and in need of a liver transplant.

Im watching a guy go through this now.
Geez, its sad,
the body is not designed to be abused every day like that.

alrighty then, Im steeping off my soap box now.

People die every day, some of them sacrifice so much every day to live a healthy life and a truck hits them on the highway... or some POS Tesla on Auto-Pilot goes into oncoming traffic and hits them head on.

If you have good insurance they will get you on the regimen, maybe cut some shit out of you every other year to keep that insurance money pouring in... Yeah they will keep you alive, if you call that living.

Some people just do what they do and live long lives, others not so much.

Not to discount good health, but 2020 has been one hell of a year. Lots of people carrying a few extra pounds, eating not as good as they used to... perhaps having a few more drinks than usual.

I hope we all live to be 100+ and only look like we are 40!

We're all getting old... Even I'm 45 this year!

PowerStroker claims I'm full of shit, so I'd like to shit in a diaper, set it on fire on his porch and run after ringing the door bell. If it was a Ring Video doorbell I'd rip it off the wall and take it with me! LOL Come back next week and set it on fire too! LOL
