In the DPS6 thread I posted the actual recall for this Takata air bag on a Lincoln, where Ford's claim you can continue to "safely drive" your vehicle until such time they have stock...
I just love that language they use, "safely driven"... but should you get in an accident you're no longer safely driving your vehicle, and your air bag may or may not blow up in your face like a stick of dynamite and send shrapnel thru your brain.
From what I read it has to do with moisture and overall age that a certain chemical becomes unstable... it's in the article you posted.
Ford now seems to have sufficient inventory to complete the recalls. It's up to the customer to decide whether or not to come in and get it done. Life is full of risks.
Resist the temptation to say anything about the Focus or the fact that you are God's gift to the industry, at least until after they are done with the recall.
