Well since not too many people get into re-building their SLS pumps I thought you might find interest in what actually goes on inside there.
Most of the time when people run out of hydo-fluid for thier suspensions this pump burns up due to the lack of oiling. As you can see this unit runs off the timing chain so you guys with 560's should know running your SLS system dry can result in serious damage to the valve train!
Have a look and let me know if you have any questions.
We have been trying to order these seals from Novi Mercedes since 2006.
My most recent visit to Novi Mercedes parts department was unpleasent. I was overcharged for an instock part and worse yet my seals have not been ordered! This items were requested back in 2006! And people think we are slow??
Anyway, if Novi Mercedes-Benz of Michigan ever gets around to ordering our seals we would have more details and offer and overhaul. As of now it seems Novi Mercedes is not interested in customer service or small orders. Lest we forget the first time we called them and they tried telling us a 560 did not have a hydrolic suspension! Have a look at this thread where it all started - http://autotrend.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=91042&p=3&topicID=9629828&topicPage=1
I had to pull my radial piston pump years ago on my 450SEL 6.9 (which is the identical part to the 560's) back in December 2003 and rebuild it with a seal kit. Also there's a gasket between pump and block that you have to replace (photo of my old one is attached). This is not a horrible job -- at least the pump is on the front of the engine so relatively accessible....
